talkstory is made by Memorality. This policy describes what data the app handles and what reaches our servers. The short version: your photo library is processed on your phone, voice conversations use OpenAI, and you can delete your account and its data from inside the app at any time.
When you sign up we store your email address, your name (if provided), and an identifier from your sign-in provider (Apple or Google). If you sign up with email and password, we store a cryptographic hash of the password, never the password itself. This data is used only to operate your account.
talkstory indexes your photo library entirely on your device — including face grouping and photo organization. During a voice conversation, the selected photo and relevant face context pass through our voice server to OpenAI for photo reasoning. We do not retain these photo uploads on our server.
Your microphone audio passes through our voice server to OpenAI GPT Live for conversation. The OpenAI Responses API handles photo reasoning and app actions. Text transcripts are stored on our account servers, linked to your account, to operate and improve the service. Voice conversations require an internet connection; speech and language models do not run on your phone.
Stories you save, and voice recordings you choose to keep, are stored on your device.
We use your email address to send account emails (welcome, password resets, security notices) and occasional product emails such as tips and reminders. Product emails can be turned off with the unsubscribe link included in each one; account emails are sent as long as you have an account. Emails are delivered by Resend, which processes your email address for that purpose.
We do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
You can delete your account in the app under Settings → account → delete account. This permanently removes your account record and all conversation data stored on our servers. You can also email us at the address below to request deletion.
Conversations are processed by OpenAI. See OpenAI API data controls. Older app versions may still use Google's Gemini API for cloud conversations under Google's API terms. Sign-in is provided by Apple and Google under their own privacy policies.
