talkstory is made by Memorality. This policy describes what data the app handles and what reaches our servers. The short version: your photo library is processed on your phone, voice conversations reach the cloud only in cloud mode, and you can delete your account and its data from inside the app at any time.
When you sign up we store your email address, your name (if provided), and an identifier from your sign-in provider (Apple or Google). If you sign up with email and password, we store a cryptographic hash of the password, never the password itself. This data is used only to operate your account.
talkstory indexes your photo library entirely on your device — including face grouping and photo understanding. Your photos are never uploaded to our servers. In cloud mode, the single photo you are currently talking about is shared with the AI service (Google Gemini) so it can see what you are describing; it is processed to generate the conversation and is not stored by us.
Cloud mode: your voice is streamed to Google's Gemini API for real-time conversation. Text transcripts of these conversations are stored on our servers, linked to your account, to operate and improve the service.
Local mode: conversations are processed entirely on your phone. Nothing you say leaves the device — we receive only anonymous-style diagnostic events (timings, model versions, error messages) linked to your account, never transcripts or conversation content.
Stories you save, and voice recordings you choose to keep, are stored on your device.
We use your email address to send account emails (welcome, password resets, security notices) and occasional product emails such as tips and reminders. Product emails can be turned off with the unsubscribe link included in each one; account emails are sent as long as you have an account. Emails are delivered by Resend, which processes your email address for that purpose.
We do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
You can delete your account in the app under Settings → account → delete account. This permanently removes your account record and all conversation data stored on our servers. You can also email us at the address below to request deletion.
Cloud-mode conversations are processed by Google's Gemini API under Google's API terms. Sign-in is provided by Apple and Google under their own privacy policies.
